Shaniwar Wada fort a huge building of 18th century which was built in the honour of the great Maratha warrior Peshwa Bajirao Ballal Balaji Bhat for his fearlessness and courage. Shaniwar Wada fort was Constructed in 1730 on the banks of Mutha river in the city of Pune, Maharashtra, It was the seat of Peshwa’s till 1818 after losing control to East India Company.

After the death of Peshwa Bajirao, his younger brother took the command and became the Peshwa of the Maratha Empire. At once, this fort was known as the most brilliant piece of architecture, but at present, it is renowned for its paranormal activities on full moon night.

The locals say that this palace is haunted by the ghost of Narayan Rao, who was Bajirao’s grandson and was the fifth and ruling Peshwa. He was brutally killed in Shaniwar Wada fort by guards on the orders of his uncle Raghunathrao and aunt Anandibai.

After his assassination, his body was thrown into the river without doing his last rituals, and it is believed that if someone’s funeral is not done as per the rituals, so the spirit gets trapped in the place of death. Since after the tortured soul of Narayan Rao cries for help and the sound of crying can be heard at night.

It is also said about this fort that on every full moon, Narayanrao’s spirit roams in this fort with wailing cry of help and continuously shouts ‘Kaaka! Maala Vaachva’. This is the Shaniwar Wada haunted story, which makes this fort one of the most haunted places in India.
