Local people believe that the history of this temple is 500 years old and the Ganesh idol in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple is 500 years old. The Lord Ganesh idol was brought to Udaipur from Gujarat in 1761 by Seth Jai Ram Palliwal, who was with Maharaja Madho Singh I. And the temple was built under the supervision of Palliwal.

The temple is situated at the bottom of the Moti Dungri hill and surrounded by Moti Dungari Fort. Sindoor-Coloured idol of Lord Ganesha captivates the devotees and the decoration done in the temple premises reflects the unique workmanship. Devotees offer different kind of sweets to lord Ganesha and take blessing. Every year more than 1.25 lakh visitors come to the temple to visit this temple.

A fair is organised every Wednesday in the temple premises, in which along with the local people, tourists who come to visit Jaipur are also included. There is a Shiva temple in Moti Dungri Temple in the form of Lingam in the temple complex which opens for visitors on Mahashivratri only one day a year.

The layout and structure of Moti Dungri is built in the Nagra style and is based on the model of the Scottish palace. Seth Jai Ram Palliwal took full responsibility for the structure of this temple and got the temple constructed under his supervision. There are three entrances and some stairs in front. It was built using limestone and marble and the construction work was completed in 4 months.

The roof of the temple is decorated by three domes with exquisite workmanship. The Ganesha idol is placed inside the temple beneath the middle dome. Moti Dungri Temple of Ganesha in Jaipur is famous among tourists for its scenic view and picturesque as well as breathtaking place.
